The
US $2.50 Indian Head Gold Quarter Eagle
was designed by Bela Lyon Pratt, a student of August Saint–Gaudens. This famous
coin features legends and motifs that are incused rather than raised on the coin. These coins contain .1209 ounces of gold.
The obverse features an American Indian chief along with the words Liberty, thirteen stars, and the coinage date. The author’s initials are above the date.
The reverse depicts the heraldic American Eagle with the monetary value of Five Dollars. It contains the words “E Pluribus Unum” and “In God We
Trust.”
